Benefits of Infrared Sauna
Health Benefits of Infrared Saunas are said to include
Better Circulation and Increased Energy
The sauna emits FIR energy that is absorbed by human cells, causing a physical phenomenon called "resonance". Thus the cellular activities are instantly invigorated, resulting in a better blood circulation and an overall improved metabolism.
Weight Loss
FIR Sauna heat therapy can aid in weight loss by speeding up the metabolic process of vital organs and endocrine glands resulting in substantial caloric loss in a sauna heat session.
Cardiovascular Health
The FIR Sauna increases heart rate and blood circulation, crucial to maintaining one's health. The heart rate increases as more blood flow is diverted from the inner organs towards the extremities of the skin, without heightening blood pressure.
Speed Recovery from Injuries
For injuries, FIR generated heat stimulates vasodilatation of peripheral blood vessels, bringing oxygen to joints and extremities, speeding the healing of sprains and strains, thus relieving pain and reducing the time it takes the human body to recover from an injury.
Detoxification
The quicker metabolic rate causes extra toxic waste products to be purged from the body through the skin, during perspiration. The skin is often referred to as the 3rd kidney, because it is believed to be responsible for eliminating 30% of the body's waste.
Stress Reduction & Relaxation FIR Sauna heat treatment before a massage also helps prepare a client by creating an overall relaxing effect. It loosens the muscle tissue so the therapist can do a more thorough and effective massage.
Skin Beautification For that sought after healthy glow, FIR Sauna heat therapy allows increased blood circulation to carry great amounts of nutrients to the skin, thus promoting healthy tone and texture. A FIR Sauna heat bath also provides a mild cleansing of the skin.
Improved Immune System
By creating an "Artificial Fever", FIR heat has a positive effect on the immune system. Often misunderstood, fever is a natural healing response of the body. The function of the immune system is increased naturally during a fever, while virus and bacterial growth is slowed, weakening its hold. This helps the body ward off invading organisms. A FIR heat treatment in the early stages of a cold or flu has been known to stop the disease before the symptoms occur

Sharon in her new room, hard at work doing MCA on a client. This is about the 8th treatment the client has had. She had SEVERE acne scaring, and has noticed such a remarkable improvement in her skin texture and scars that she has felt confident enough to allow family to see her without make-up for the first time since she was a teenager. What a boost of confidence this new technique has given her!

My husband just got home from his "Father's Day Contest" massage you so graciously gifted him for the story I posted. He needed this so much this week more than any other. He had a rough week and even this morning and early afternoon, he was SO worn out and exhausted that he was dragging out of the house to go to his appointment. I almost didn't recognize him when he walked in the door. He LOVED his massage!!!! He's been playing with the little 3 year old I babysit since he got home. He was so impressed with Jacob and his professionalism that he bought a package deal to get 2 more!!! I was shocked he spent the money but, you know what??? I am so pleased with the relaxed, happy man that came home that I do NOT mind!!! :-D Thank you to everyone at LeFores for making Kent feel like he "died and went to Heaven". Those were his exact words
Terri Silvernail Cantrell*****

Relief for Sciatica nerve pain

Going to continuing education for massage therapy in Portland often feels like I’m attending a convention for extras from a Science Fiction movie. Older women with oversized glasses and wildly disheveled hair cluster on one side of the room, discussing there lasted revelations with energy work. Students huddle together on the other side, awkwardly flirting between texts and sporadically looking at anatomy flash cards. The rest of the assorted gathering falls somewhere between the extremes, sitting quietly and sipping cheap hotel coffee. I always expect the older crowd to whip out a ruler and dispense some discipline on one of the flirting students, but this doesn’t happen and I turn my attention back to the class material.
The last class I attended was for sciatica relief, something many of my clients suffer from. Sciatica can be caused from traumatic falls or accidents but more often than not it is from prolonged sitting, poor posture, inadequate core support and poor flexibility. The key to effectively treating sciatica is being able to access where it is originating from and treating accordingly.
Most of the massages I do at the spa require the client to be passive and relax. Treating sciatica is almost the complete opposite. Retraining the muscles, nerves and joints requires active involvement of the client.
If you have sciatic pain, don’t expect this treatment to be a relaxing experience, but do expect results and to be actively involved in your healing. Having worked at physical therapy clinics in the past, these treatments are much more along those lines. With that I will also expect you to do the exercises at home that will continue to aid you in your recovery, and if you don’t I just might have to have one of my new friends from class whip out their ruler and dispense some discipline. Trust me, you’ll thank me in the end.

Sping 2011 Fashion Week, Hair & Make-up Trends

Hair now is about shine and health. Even curly hair, is about natural radiance, if you want it straight, we like the Brocato Curl Intrerupted- it feeds the cuticle, adds shine and movement, and eliminates frizz, while adding body. Unlike other straightening systems, it has no formaldehyde, and retains your natural body. For wearing your hair curly: Aveda’s New Be Curly Style Prep leaves your hair soft, not “crunchy.” It moisturizes and seals the cuticle to fight frizz! It also makes styling curls easier and helps maintain them longer. “Prep, style, finish” It preps the hair for the Be Curly Curl Enhancer and whatever finish product is desired.
All shades of color can benefit from a clarifying shampoo, and grey can be beautiful and shiny, a blue toned shampoo can help keep grey hair looking great, it banishes yellow tones. And blondes benefit from toning shampoos to removes brassiness, and helps you go longer between touch ups.
Use a wick towel to remove more water, these are great for removing more water from hair after shampooing. And holding the dryer 3 feet away from hair- tones your arms!
Make-up is about color this spring, dramatic eyes that are updated with new color, or a red red lip. Either no bangs or straight, strong bangs were shown at New York’s fashion week to frame the dramatic make-up effects.
Fashion week as quoted from Harper’s Bazaar “White was the color of the season, with optimistic pops of bright colors in unexpected combinations lending an air of delightful surprise to many collections.”

Have you tried Shellac....This stuff is Great!

I NEVER wear polish, I always end up smudging it, and if I don't smudge it I am chipping, breaking, picking at it. You see I am hard on my hands/nails from being in water all the time, pulling weeds, or my current activity of texturing walls with joint compound (EXTREMELY DRYING to your hands), I just don't take the time to pamper them. So when I was asked to try the Shellac polish, I was ready to take it on and hate it.... ( I had the gel polish off in less then 24 hours!). I want my nails to look good, I just don't want to spend a lot of time on them, and let me say this polish is AMAZING!!!! it lasted a full 2 weeks, without a chip and it still looked like a fresh manicure super shiny no peeling, completely surpassed my expectations! If you want a polish that is going to last, this stuff can't be beat!!

Here is what the manufacture has to say:
Delivering the goods.
Credibility makes all the difference.
Better science makes better products. The patent-pending formulation of solvents, monomers and polymers is why Shellac™ goes on like polish, wears like gel and removes in minutes. Plus it's hypo-allergenic and 3-FREE... containing no formaldehyde, toluene or DBP.
Shellac—stands miles apart from others in the market with the science and testing to back it up. Nail Professionals that participated in more than 4 years of controlled, blind testing said unanimously—there’s no comparison—not even close!

Warnings on the Brazilian Blowout??

So we have had a lot of request for “Brazilian Blowout/ Keratin treatment” and while we have been offering this service for the past two years, there is a lot of Buzz going on right now that OSHA has found formaldehydes (a possible carcinogen) in many of the products. What do you as the consumer need to know? The companies promoting these products continue to say no formaldehyde in their system, while products tested by OSHA have shown they contain 8-10% of formaldehyde. So what does this mean to you? I think each person will need to seek the truth for themselves. For the stylist that works with the product daily, the obvious is the exposure which can cause eye stinging, or burning, difficulty breathing, and in some cases possible nosebleeds. So mask, gloves are so important if you are a stylist. For the consumer… when you must weigh the benefits versus risk, consumers are not putting their hands in the product on a daily basis. Here is a link to a report done by GMA, so be informed and make your own decision.
We offer both of the systems shown here.

Back to School

August is coming to an end, I can hardly believe that some of the kids in this area are already back to school!
So what to do now...breathe,1,2,3, lol!
We all love having the extra time with our kids, but the "I'm bored, what can we do" can wear out Mom's (and Dad's) pretty quickly.
Before you know it we will be planing for the holidays, I am already seeing Halloween displays in the stores. That being said, this is a perfect time to take a few minutes for yourself! Relax, Restore, and Revive, we all only have 1 ride!

I wanna do your Make-up......

This weekend I was practicing my makeup application techniques on my little sister. As I was doing so a vision of my granny popped into my head. I smiled and shook my head. So, why does this little memory make me smile every time I think of it? Please allow me to elaborate for you.
Everyone has that one person in their family that looks them over from head to toe and critiques every (and I mean every) little thing about them. For me, it is my grandma. Now don’t get me wrong I love granny, she is loving, caring but most of all hilarious! She is turning 92 in a couple of weeks and she still is up to date on the latest “news”, at least the news that is covered by InStyle and People Magazine. Just a little note about my grandma – NEVER ask about Reese Witherspoon or J-Lo, they happen to be very touchy subjects for granny!
When I first moved to Walla Walla and took the job at LeFore’s Spa I had a few questions that grandma needed answered. First of which was, do I like it, in which I replied:
“Yes grandma, I am enjoying it very much.”
The second question, oh the second question, it will stick with me forever, only because of the statement that was made afterward:
“Do you get to do make-up there?”
“Yes, we do make-up applications and lessons.”
Her reply to what I had answered was so matter-of-fact:
“That’s nice; maybe you could learn how to do yours.”
I almost peed my pants I was laughing so hard! One thing you have to know about Granny is she lacks in the vision department! I mean REALLY lacks!! On one of my visits to see her, my father and I had the privilege of taking her out shopping for her beauty supplies. Now mind you she is downright stubborn, there is no telling her about make-up. To make a long story short, I went and celebrated that evening with my cousins, why you ask? Because I just did what everyone else had been trying to do: I steered granny away from the Black Radiance section in the make-up department!! You see, Grandma is very white with red hair to boot! I may have won a battle but I did not win the war, I was only able to talk her down to toffee colored foundation!
Makeup tips from Granny
- Always go for a foundation 4-5 shades darker than your natural skin color (it will give you the tan look you have always wanted)
- Don’t be afraid to use your eyeliner - whoever says that less is more is full of it!
- Mix it up once in a while, be spontaneous use your bright red lip liner as an eyebrow pencil (that was a day my dad will never forget – he thought she was bleeding, lol!)
- When putting on eye shadow, apply from lid all the way up to the brow, it really makes your eyes pop!
I love my grandma so much and I wouldn’t change anything about her (except the makeup!). She is such a beautiful vivacious woman. I hope that I am as up with the times as she is when I am her age!!
Now to leave you with some of my makeup tips! That is if you believe that once in a while the apple does fall far enough away from the tree!
- When trying to match a foundation to your skin tone, pick three colors that are close to your skin tone. Next test them by streaking them down the jaw-line (don’t have a heavy hand), whichever one fades in to your jaw line is your color (if none of them match, pick again adjusting either darker or lighter).
p.s. Use light touch, there is no need to push or mash the makeup in, you’ll end up getting that cakey look as well as stretching the skin (wrinkles!!).
- To get those full voluptuous lips - line the lips, using a shade darker than your lipstick and a tad bit thicker lining than normal. Next using the same lip liner shade in the center of the lower lip and bow, smudge the lips together. Apply your lipstick (use a sheer or very light color), then add your gloss and voila! Pouty, full lips!
- The key to any good makeup application lies in the contouring and highlighting of the face. A quick rule of thumb is that dark colors make areas recede and light colors highlight and bring features forward.
So where do contour and where do you highlight?
Concentrate on contouring the temples, around the hairline, tip and sides of the nose into the crease of the eye, hollows of the cheek, under the chin and down the sides of the neck.
For highlighting apply to the center of the forehead and down the bridge of the nose, the brow bone, center of the eyelid, under the eye and the cheekbone plane, to the center of the chin up under the lip and around the corners of the mouth.
Blend with your fingers and remember to keep the product in general area where you applied it! It sounds like a lot of work but believe me it will pay off!
Oh and when you are picking your colors for contouring and highlighting always go 2 shades darker and 2 shades lighter than your normal skin tone (not your foundation color).
I hope these tips help you, and if the don’t well… you can always refer to Granny’s tips ;)
