Halloween Make-up

I had a fun time doing some Halloween make-up this morning, it's fun to dress up outside of the normal day-to-day. Pictured here are a sugar skull, spider queen, and a candy skull. I always think it would be fun to be a movie make-up artist, the ability to create creatures and watch it come to life would be so much fun, but I think you would need to live in Hollywood to make a career like that, so I will satisfy my creativity with a little local special effects make-up.

Northwest Nail Retreat!!

This is my second year attending the northwest nail retreat, and my experience was just as amazing as the first time I went! The camp is located on Vashon Island in Seattle. It is surrounded by woods, water, and lots of wild life. It is just beautiful!

I got the chance to compete in my first nail competition, it was scary putting my work out in front of over a hundred of my peers, but I am so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone because I learned so much! My co-worker Terrie was my model, and I placed 13th in the novice category. I think I did well for my first competition, and most importantly, I learned a lot from it.

I took many different classes and learned to improve some of my techniques for my clients, which is so important to me. Some of the teachers really stood out and I am going to be incorporating their training. Vickie Peters taught a Master Gel Polish Class and taught techniques to keep gel polish from lifting which is so great, because as gel polish has grown in popularity, it is important to learn and grow with our products to offer our clients the very best service. Another exciting thing was that I became certified in IBX. I learned about this great product last year at camp, and I've been working with it since then, but now I know I can actually help to fix my clients peeling, and or ridged nails and all different kinds of damage to the nail plate. I can't wait to attend more camps in the future, because I had such a blast and I truly love nails!

Need inspiration? Watch the stars – If you are struggling to find a color that fills you with excitement, buy yourself a celebrity magazine and see what the stars are doing. Celebrities spend thousands of dollars every month on Stylists just so they can stay on the edge of the latest hair trends. Color for the season - One way of guaranteeing you are always in style is matching your hair color to the season. If it’s summer, go as light as you dare and don’t be afraid to try big bold colors. In fall and spring, it’s all about warm natural looking colors, and in the winter the darker you are prepared to go the better. Radical change - Ready to step out of your comfort zone? One of the boldest and most daring moves you can do is a complete color transformation. Are you a blonde? Why not trying a sleek black look, or for you sultry brunettes, why not try a bright red look? A radical change might be enough to leave you shaking in your shoes, but it’s often these big hair color changes that can leave us feeling our best.

Electrolysis Hair Removal

Electrolysis hair removal is the only method approved by the FDA for permanent hair removal. It does require multiple sessions to achieve best possible results, but permanent hair removal isn't 100% guaranteed for everyone. How Does it Work? An electric current is applied with a very fine needle-shaped electrode, or metal probe into each hair follicle to destroy the root. Hair grows in different stages: growing, resting and shedding. Because all of the hair isn't on the same stage at any given time, multiple sessions are needed to get the hair in the growth phase for electrolysis hair removal to be most effective- just like laser hair removal. The Pros It has the best track record. Electrolysis has the best overall results, versus any other method, in ridding hair for long periods of time- or even permanently. Many different hair and skin types can benefit. Because it doesn't target hair pigment (color) like laser, but attacks the follicle itself. People that aren't good candidates for laser can still get electrolysis. The Cons Bent follicles can make electrolysis hair removal harder. Previous waxing or tweezing can make hair follicles bent or misshapen, and getting the needle to the root more difficult to destroy the follicle. Multiple treatments are needed. You have to truly be committed to electrolysis because you will need anywhere from 15 - 30 sessions, which will take up a considerable amount of your time.

It's time for beautiful nails!

There are plenty of reasons to get artificial fingernails. Maybe you're going to a wedding or reunion and you want to look sharp. Or perhaps you've had trouble growing your nails long and need assistance. Which is right for you: Acrylic or Gel? Acrylic Nails Your nail technician will mix a liquid with a powder and brush the mixture onto your nails. They'll usually cover your entire nail, though sometimes they'll just add tips or a flexible form that they can sculpt to extend your nails. The product hardens as it is exposed to the air. You may notice a strong odor during the application process, but it isn't harmful, provided the room has good ventilation. Maintenance: Over time, acrylics grow out with your nails. Every two to three weeks, you should return to the salon to have your nails filled in. Your technician will gently file down the acrylic edge closest to your nail bed, then fill in the empty area between your nail bed and the existing acrylic nail. Removal: When you decide to have your acrylics removed, your nail technician will remove them quite easily, with no forcing or prying, after soaking your hands in remover for 15 minutes.
Gel Nails Today's gels have a similar consistency to nail polish. They are brushed onto your nails, nail tips, to extend length. After your nail technician applies each coat, you must put your nails under ultraviolet (UV) light for up to two minutes to "cure" or harden the product. There is no odor during the application process, but some gel products create a burning sensation as the product cures. Maintenance: Like acrylics, gels grow out with your nails and need to be filled in every two to three weeks. Your technician will gently file down the gel edge closest to your nail bed, and then fill in the empty area between your nail bed and the existing gel nail. Removal: When you decide to have your gels removed, your nail technician will remove them quite easily, by gently clipping and filing to the natural nail

Brazilian Blowout

Revisiting Brazilian Blowout benefits
Through the use of innovative and breakthrough bonding technologies, these treatments actually improve the health and condition of the hair by creating a protective protein layer around the hair shaft to eliminate frizz and smooth the cuticle. The end result is smooth, healthy, frizz-free hair with radiant shine! Through the use of a Brazilian Super Nutrient Complex and a proprietary polymer system, the Brazilian Blowout actually improves the condition of the hair by creating a protective protein layer around the hair shaft to eliminate frizz and smooth the cuticle. The end result is smooth, healthy, conditioned hair with radiant shine. WHAT TO EXPECT: When you arrive at the salon, the process is as follows. Stylist will shampoo your hair with the Brazilian Blowout specially formulated Anti-Residue Professional Shampoo to prepare your hair for the optimal smoothing result. After towel drying, your stylist will divide your hair into sections and begin to comb the Brazilian Blowout Professional Treatment through each section of the hair from root to tip; lightly dusting each section with the solution. Solution will surround each hair shaft with protective protein layers to smooth and flatten the cuticle. Stylist will then blow-dry your hair as straight as possible with a flat or round brush. Once the hair is dry, the Stylist will divide the hair into four sections and begin using a flat iron to further straighten the hair in 1 - 1¾ inch sections. Once complete, the Stylist will rinse the hair (no shampoo), towel-dry and apply the Brazilian Blowout Masque to further seal in the professional formulation. After 60 seconds, the stylist will rinse the hair once again and towel dry. The Stylist will then apply the Brazilian Blowout Smoothing Serum to further seal the cuticle and assist in detangling the hair prior to the final blow dry. The Stylist will then blow dry the hair straight one final time and style as desired.
