Have you tried Shellac....This stuff is Great!

I NEVER wear polish, I always end up smudging it, and if I don't smudge it I am chipping, breaking, picking at it. You see I am hard on my hands/nails from being in water all the time, pulling weeds, or my current activity of texturing walls with joint compound (EXTREMELY DRYING to your hands), I just don't take the time to pamper them. So when I was asked to try the Shellac polish, I was ready to take it on and hate it.... ( I had the gel polish off in less then 24 hours!). I want my nails to look good, I just don't want to spend a lot of time on them, and let me say this polish is AMAZING!!!! it lasted a full 2 weeks, without a chip and it still looked like a fresh manicure super shiny no peeling, completely surpassed my expectations! If you want a polish that is going to last, this stuff can't be beat!!

Here is what the manufacture has to say:

Delivering the goods.
Credibility makes all the difference.

Better science makes better products. The patent-pending formulation of solvents, monomers and polymers is why Shellac™ goes on like polish, wears like gel and removes in minutes. Plus it's hypo-allergenic and 3-FREE... containing no formaldehyde, toluene or DBP.

Shellac—stands miles apart from others in the market with the science and testing to back it up. Nail Professionals that participated in more than 4 years of controlled, blind testing said unanimously—there’s no comparison—not even close!

Warnings on the Brazilian Blowout??

So we have had a lot of request for “Brazilian Blowout/ Keratin treatment” and while we have been offering this service for the past two years, there is a lot of Buzz going on right now that OSHA has found formaldehydes (a possible carcinogen) in many of the products. What do you as the consumer need to know? The companies promoting these products continue to say no formaldehyde in their system, while products tested by OSHA have shown they contain 8-10% of formaldehyde. So what does this mean to you? I think each person will need to seek the truth for themselves. For the stylist that works with the product daily, the obvious is the exposure which can cause eye stinging, or burning, difficulty breathing, and in some cases possible nosebleeds. So mask, gloves are so important if you are a stylist. For the consumer… when you must weigh the benefits versus risk, consumers are not putting their hands in the product on a daily basis. Here is a link to a report done by GMA, so be informed and make your own decision.
We offer both of the systems shown here.

Back to School

August is coming to an end, I can hardly believe that some of the kids in this area are already back to school!

So what to do now...breathe,1,2,3, lol!
We all love having the extra time with our kids, but the "I'm bored, what can we do" can wear out Mom's (and Dad's) pretty quickly.
Before you know it we will be planing for the holidays, I am already seeing Halloween displays in the stores. That being said, this is a perfect time to take a few minutes for yourself! Relax, Restore, and Revive, we all only have 1 ride!

I wanna do your Make-up......

This weekend I was practicing my makeup application techniques on my little sister. As I was doing so a vision of my granny popped into my head. I smiled and shook my head. So, why does this little memory make me smile every time I think of it? Please allow me to elaborate for you.
Everyone has that one person in their family that looks them over from head to toe and critiques every (and I mean every) little thing about them. For me, it is my grandma. Now don’t get me wrong I love granny, she is loving, caring but most of all hilarious! She is turning 92 in a couple of weeks and she still is up to date on the latest “news”, at least the news that is covered by InStyle and People Magazine. Just a little note about my grandma – NEVER ask about Reese Witherspoon or J-Lo, they happen to be very touchy subjects for granny!
When I first moved to Walla Walla and took the job at LeFore’s Spa I had a few questions that grandma needed answered. First of which was, do I like it, in which I replied:
“Yes grandma, I am enjoying it very much.”
The second question, oh the second question, it will stick with me forever, only because of the statement that was made afterward:
“Do you get to do make-up there?”
“Yes, we do make-up applications and lessons.”
Her reply to what I had answered was so matter-of-fact:
“That’s nice; maybe you could learn how to do yours.”
I almost peed my pants I was laughing so hard! One thing you have to know about Granny is she lacks in the vision department! I mean REALLY lacks!! On one of my visits to see her, my father and I had the privilege of taking her out shopping for her beauty supplies. Now mind you she is downright stubborn, there is no telling her about make-up. To make a long story short, I went and celebrated that evening with my cousins, why you ask? Because I just did what everyone else had been trying to do: I steered granny away from the Black Radiance section in the make-up department!! You see, Grandma is very white with red hair to boot! I may have won a battle but I did not win the war, I was only able to talk her down to toffee colored foundation!
Makeup tips from Granny
- Always go for a foundation 4-5 shades darker than your natural skin color (it will give you the tan look you have always wanted)
- Don’t be afraid to use your eyeliner - whoever says that less is more is full of it!
- Mix it up once in a while, be spontaneous use your bright red lip liner as an eyebrow pencil (that was a day my dad will never forget – he thought she was bleeding, lol!)
- When putting on eye shadow, apply from lid all the way up to the brow, it really makes your eyes pop!
I love my grandma so much and I wouldn’t change anything about her (except the makeup!). She is such a beautiful vivacious woman. I hope that I am as up with the times as she is when I am her age!!
Now to leave you with some of my makeup tips! That is if you believe that once in a while the apple does fall far enough away from the tree!
- When trying to match a foundation to your skin tone, pick three colors that are close to your skin tone. Next test them by streaking them down the jaw-line (don’t have a heavy hand), whichever one fades in to your jaw line is your color (if none of them match, pick again adjusting either darker or lighter).
p.s. Use light touch, there is no need to push or mash the makeup in, you’ll end up getting that cakey look as well as stretching the skin (wrinkles!!).
- To get those full voluptuous lips - line the lips, using a shade darker than your lipstick and a tad bit thicker lining than normal. Next using the same lip liner shade in the center of the lower lip and bow, smudge the lips together. Apply your lipstick (use a sheer or very light color), then add your gloss and voila! Pouty, full lips!
- The key to any good makeup application lies in the contouring and highlighting of the face. A quick rule of thumb is that dark colors make areas recede and light colors highlight and bring features forward.
So where do contour and where do you highlight?
Concentrate on contouring the temples, around the hairline, tip and sides of the nose into the crease of the eye, hollows of the cheek, under the chin and down the sides of the neck.
For highlighting apply to the center of the forehead and down the bridge of the nose, the brow bone, center of the eyelid, under the eye and the cheekbone plane, to the center of the chin up under the lip and around the corners of the mouth.
Blend with your fingers and remember to keep the product in general area where you applied it! It sounds like a lot of work but believe me it will pay off!
Oh and when you are picking your colors for contouring and highlighting always go 2 shades darker and 2 shades lighter than your normal skin tone (not your foundation color).

I hope these tips help you, and if the don’t well… you can always refer to Granny’s tips ;)

An Endearing, Funny, blog from our massage therapist!

A few professions in the world really lend themselves to being taken advantage of, (not necessarily in a bad way) by friends and family once they leave the work environment. Chefs are almost certainly put in charge of the summer BBQ; Accountants are undoubtedly harassed during tax season, and massage therapists’ daughters will not go to bed unless Daddy has given them a massage.

Every night there is a routine. First comes the bath, (“Keep the water IN the tub please.”). Bath time is followed by helping them brush their teeth, (“Stop eating the toothpaste!”). The Pajamas are put on and stories are lovingly read. If it is wintertime, the hair dryer is brought out to blow heat in their bed so they stay toasty and warm. To most children this would be more than enough. If your dad is a massage therapist, it is just the warm up to the main event.

Massage to my daughters is more than just a quick back rub. They have learned to request specific areas that are bothering them and are more than willing to tell me if I am not doing deep enough work. Massage commentary like, “No Daddy, I need a massage like you do at work”, and, “Daddy, You forgot my legs and arms” is not uncommon.

My oldest daughter has understood for quite some time that massage is my job. My four-year-old daughter had not quite figured this out though. Therefore, when LeFore’s Spa placed a video of me demonstrating a new service on their Facebook page, it confused her. I was at work and my wife was showing my kids the video of me giving a massage to a fellow employee.

“Is that you Mommy?” my youngest asked.

“No.”

There was a pause well my daughter tried to process this information.

“Why’s Daddy helping someone else?”

To my daughter, who has grown up getting massages nightly and was my infant massage therapy model, the concept that I worked on other people was a new one. But, even through her naivety, she brings up a valid question. Why do I help someone else? Why do I do what I do?

Mostly I do what I do because I love it. I love helping people feel better and increase the quality of their life. Doing what I do, gives a grandparent the ability to get down on the floor and play with their grandchild. It gives a mother the break she needs to regain her sanity from keeping up with her kids day after day. It helps the farmer get back to work after straining his muscles from tossing hay bales for hours on end. At work, I help because people need it, more than many of them even know they do. I help others feel better so they can go home and spend quality time with their children, who sometimes ask questions that make us smile, nod, and then try our best to answer with a straight face.

Summer Spots?

Too much summer sun for your skin? Seeing the signs of visible damage like Brown spots, and uneven tones on the skin are just one of the hazards of sun damage. Babies aren't born with freckles, none of us are! The formation of freckles is triggered by exposure to sunlight. The exposure to UV-B radiation activates melanocytes to increase the melanin production which causes uneven tones.

So what do we recommend to combat visible sun damage? Dermalogica's Chroma White System which is developed specifically to deliver brightening skin health results, without hydroquinone which has been shown to cause sensitivity issues for many people.

Add a skin brightening facial at LeFore's Spa complimentary when you purchase the Chroma White System Kit. You also can purchase individual items to boost your home regiment.

Tri-Active Cleanse * Improves surface clarity.
Powerfoliant * Smooths and enhances skin texture and tone.
C-12 Concentrate * Minimize and prevent discoloration.
Extreme C * Accelerate skin brightening, and strengthens the skin's defenses.
Pure Light * Medium weight moisturizer that conditions and brightens.
Pure Night * Nourish and brighten! Contains peptides, minerals and botanical extracts for
optimum results.

Dermalogica and you

One of our favorite product lines we carry is Dermalogica. There are many reasons we choose to carry it, and we want to share with you just a few of the reasons why. We love the fact that they are committed to education, continually updating their products with the latest skin care and ingredient technology have to offer. They have a fail-proof plan, that we embrace: give the therapist education, sample the client, offer great treatments where the products are used or supported in the treatment room, and follow up home use with education in the form of take home prescription sheets so that you will not feel overwhelmed or uncertain of when and how to use your skin regiment. We want everyone who comes into LeFore's Spa to feel welcome and to not feel "pressured" to buy, but rather an informed decision between you and your skin therapist to achieve a desired result. Offering face mapping allows us to target specific problem areas of concern to be treated with either micro zone treatments to complete clinical services.

Skin Needling

Local esthetician Sharon LeFore has just returned from the American Institute of Permanent color Technology in Santa Ana, CA. Sharon completed extensive training in the field of Multitrepannic Collagen Actuation or MCA as it is known in the business.
Can you help me with my Scar?
This is the question that drove Sharon to seek help for her clients. Finding out that there are only a handful of practitioners that currently offer MCA further fueled her desire to solve this problem for her clients.
It’s important to realize that no scar can be removed completely, and here are several ways to make scars less obvious and improve their appearance. Multitrepannic Collagen Actuation or Dry Needling refers to a procedure where the effect of the healing process results in a visible change or scar remodeling. Plastic Surgeons Dr. Camirand and Dr. Des Fernandes have written articles on Dry Needling using the method since the late 1980’s to soften and stretch scars following face lifts with noted improvement in the scar and its color. The result in most cases is a smooth flat scar that is less noticeable and the return of pigment (color) to some of the lighter scars.
MCA is an entirely natural way of getting the body's own cells to regenerate and get rid of wrinkles. MCA is a practically-painless, completely risk-free alternative to injecting muscle relaxants such as Botox. Although MCA uses a very fine needle, nothing is injected and the treatment causes a micro-trauma to the skin, in order to force it into a state of self repair. Our bodies are equipped with a DNA system and, when injured, the body sends out the correct signals and tools which enable it to repair itself and heal. Some patients notice the benefit after just one treatment; others may require up to three treatments, one month apart.
As you puncture the skin, you create a wound which heals in three phases inflammation, proliferation, and tissue remodeling. When the needle enters the skin, it starts the inflammation phase. Fibroblasts cells that give rise to connective tissue, move into the affected area and start to produce collagen and elastin to help the healing process.
Although the procedure does damage the skin and cause minor bleeding, the skin is essentially regenerating itself. Following a treatment, the patient is left with a fine red scratch mark, which forms a scab and heals within 5-7 days.
MCA is an exciting new option available for the treatment of depressed Acne scarring, wrinkles and scar relaxation, and has been shown to:
Smooth wrinkles and fill lines
Improve skin texture
Relax scars
Improve depressed acne scarring
Improve the appearance of stretch marks
Fill old surgical scars
Improve Chicken Pox scars
Away from the face, MCA is also excellent for treating stretch marks or other body scars it can also be used to help soften scars caused by less than perfect face lift surgery.
One great advantage of MCA over other similar treatments is that is does not cause any permanent damage to the skin and the healing phase is short. It is virtually painless and the treatment can be repeated as often as necessary, without any risk.

Waxing seminar

The seminar was taught by internationally recognized skin waxing industry leader Lori Nestore, aka "the wax queen". A gifted instructor, Lori got her start at Eva's Esthetics as the Educational Director, inspiring staff and students alike for many years. The Wax Queen and CEO of Eva's Esthetics for the past four years, recognized for her proficiency in waxing, Lori continues to be a popular and highly demanded instructor teaching her "secrets of the trade" and producing waxing videos.
Assisted by Vice President Lisa Nestore, Lori is now responsible for oversight of
daily operations and the growth of this successful company. The focus is still on a commitment to high quality education and products that service a broad spectrum of multicultural clientele.
The seminar began with an introduction to the latest waxing innovation from France, long recognized as the seat of leadership in skin care technology. As the Wax Queen, it seems only natural that Lori would be among the first to provide instruction in the US on the finest in depilation products, Berins French Depilatory Wax.
LeFore’s Spa desires to bring the best services and products to Walla Walla, through ongoing education and training. For more information about the new waxing services and products available at LeFore’s, call 509-525-3336.
Formulated with exclusive patents. Berins Waxes are superior to any other product on the market: gentle, easy to use and effective. Heated at low temperature, the waxes are applied just above skin temperatures, have wonderful creamy textures and are less sticky than traditional waxes.
One of only eight people in the northwest who attended the space-limited, hands-on seminar, Sharon LeFore of LeFore’s Spa in Walla Walla came away with some great insights on waxing, upon interview LeFore stated:
"This was the best waxing class I have ever attended! We learned and practiced how to wax the entire body, on both men and women."
When asked about the different types of waxes available to clients, LeFore spoke knowledgably about where and what types of waxes should be used when waxing different areas of the body, along with individual hair textures.2007, local Spa Owner and Aesthetician Sharon LeFore attended a two day hands-on seminar hosted by Salon Services and Supplies at the Glendow Academy in Spokane, WA.

Interested in working with us? Please read our Culture before applying!

What is “Culture”? Culture is the attitudes and behavior that characterize the functioning of a group or organization. What is LeFore’s Culture? Our culture here is Christian based – meaning: we have prayer after meetings and social gatherings; we put the well being of others before ourselves, etc. We are a happy heart-felt bunch of people. We believe in encouraging and lifting each other up, helping to educate and share our experiences with one another. We are also funny, pranksters (at times), and practical! We all know that life is short, so why spend it squabbling with one another, we embrace our differences and let the rest go! A good laugh is healthy for everyone; we are not the type of spa that is snooty we have fun and enjoy each other! We are truly a team – what affects one, affects all. We are all geared to the same goals and making a difference in the lives of our clients. What is LeFore’s Culture is NOT: - Disrespectful – to each other or our clients - Gossipy – we keep what our clients talk to us about – confidential, it is a private conversation between a therapist and a client and we respect that. Also we do not talk ill of co-workers at all! - Rude/Snobby – everyone here is equal, we do not believe that anyone is better than another employee (everyone cleans the bathrooms in this spa!). - Selfish – we are not a “me me me” spa. No one person “owns” the clients. The clients are the Spa’s clients. We all are interchangeable as far as who works on the client. We all share and play fair. - Lazy – when there are no clients there is work to be done. Employees are to be busy, make sure the spa is clean, thank you notes have been written, etc. Some of LeFore’s Values: -Lead by example - Be a TEAM - Take responsibility (if you mess up – admit it – move on and fix it) -Be involved - Be tenacious - Be trustworthy and honest Why is “Culture” Important? Culture is like a fine wine, keeping the contents bottled up in a tight confined area keeps the wine fresh and improves the flavor over the years. Once the wine is exposed to air (in this example think of air as a person who likes to gossip), it slowly begins to “spoil” the taste of the wine, affecting not only what you poured into the glass but the whole bottle itself. The habits of one individual can affect and change the habits of an entire group. Culture is a constant work in progress we are always “tweaking” our attitudes to reflect the best in us and the spa!
